“Summertime and the politicos’ are sleazy, now they’re jumping, and we say how high”. Although not quite the Gershwin classic, it could be the tune American legislators’ dance to if the blue velvet revolution against proposed health care reform stays true.
Presently, blue dog democrats with red, white and blue Americans have paused heavy handed politicians telling us to swallow Mr. Obama’s signature health care “deform bill”.
An informed, outraged American electorate is potent. Legislators are home on summer recess. Before us is an opportunity to turn this skullduggery and socialistic re reengineering into grist for the American mill of miracles. We must seize the good and remove the chaff
I hear the call to rally just as plainly as did North Boston patriots on the 18th of April in 1775. I see it as clearly through the suffocating smoke as did citizens and city servants rushing to aid on 9-11. I feel its ominous rumblings like those awoken from Sunday morning slumber, Dec 7th 1941. America is under attack from within. It is time to answer that call with informed grace and immovable gravitas. Unaltered, this proposed health care legislation will fan the flames of the cremation of our constitution, letting loose the fires of soul sucking socialism and big government.
Health care is inextricably intertwined with Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and an insane taxation system auguring a towering $55 trillion dollar national debt. Pandering to fear and misrepresentations, the best health care system in the history of the world needs reform not rape. So what do we do with the precious moments before the return of our elected emissaries?
Never underestimate the power of knowledge and the high road. Conservatives suffer the yoke of double standard, deal with it. Resorting to the ridiculous is self fulfilling prophesy, stop it. Right reason is no respecter of persons and good ideas have no political color
Understand the problem. Fifty five million are not uninsured. Doctors are autonomous decisions makers trained and avowed to seek out the evidence in pursuit of the right. Build a system which embraces that. Yes to outcomes based research, national scale clinical effectiveness studies, pursuit of best practices and prevention and treatment trials. Say no to defensive medicine and all its tentacles.
Yes to an attack on fraud and abuse. Yes to the application of, not addiction to, digital technology with assurance of privacy. Without knowing how you’ve done, you can’t know what to do.
Health care is a right as is the pursuit of happiness. Entitlement is not a right and quickly becomes enfeeblement. Government as health insurer and insurance regulator kills private firms, choice and the fruits of capitalism. Tax laws must facilitate private ownership and control of health care dollars. Cost containment medicine leads to evil contracts
Peerless American quality and access are costly, deal with it. Listen to GAO and Lewin Group warnings of destructive outcomes from social reengineering. Government provided health care is more expensive (net), less comprehensive, without bargaining power, and is driven by political will and whim while muting innovation.
We label soup cans, demand explicit informed consent, mandate high school graduation scores and expect a modicum of proficiency to operate a motor vehicle. What do we require of Congress?
Millions ogle American Idol or snuck peeks at Super Bowl breasts that nurture nothing. For the love of America, can we not have a prime time national debate with third party cost estimates, terms defined and repeating web casts on this issue?
We must minister to our legislators. We must tamponade this torrent of social reengineering and give legislators a homecoming they’ll never forget. Calls, e mail, go to town hall meetings, blog, sign thoughtful petitions or go to rallies.
Removing Mr. Obama’s “signature piece of legislation” will give America a handle on the Presidents pen and tourniquet the hemorrhaging of our heritage
