National spending has sizzled in its ballistic over-budget climb past $10 trillion with our total indebtedness boiling at $50 trillion and rising. Our trajectory towards economic travesty will glow even hotter if global warming minions launch destructive climate legislation.
The Cap and Trade or carbon tax schemes kicking around Congress surpass the “earth is flat” medieval nonsense as man’s greatest hoax against man. Like an improbable Greek myth, the pursuit by Obama and his “Gore-Go- Nauts” to corral the mythical “Golden Fleece” of global warming may fleece us all and do so with “Gore-Gantuan” bad results.
This is bad juju. Just say no!
Carbon taxes are just that; you pay a tax on what carbon you use. Cap and Trade creates a commodities market in carbon credit trading with no clear standard reference, massive administrative costs and immense fraud potential. Productivity and jobs will decrease and energy costs will soar. These schemes could cost American businesses four times the New Deal at $ 646 billion over ten years and over $100 billion per year.
Alternative energy sources, including nuclear breeder reactors, must be developed with technology matching the terrain. The rationale is energy independence and political stability, not the avoidance of fictional self inflicted catastrophes that would make even Irwin Allen gasp.
Although the notion of rising oceans and mid century surfing in Secaucus N.J are religiously en vogue, thousands of credible signature wielding scientists endorsing the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics 1000 year study see it differently. Multiple sources of a millennium of global temperatures and over 240 critically dissected peer reviewed studies show we are not dangerously warming and man is not a malevolent Mephisto turning up the heat, imperiling us all. Non-industrialized medieval times were far warmer than now.
In 1998, the US senate supported 95 to zero the Byrd/Hagel resolution preventing ratification of the fabled Kyoto Accord which seeks to limit man’s CO2 production. They made their approval contingent on there being no substantial economic harm to the U.S. and developing countries being required to be on similar timelines. Wharton Econometric Forecasting Associates held that Kyoto would cost 2.4 million U.S. jobs and reduce GDP by 3.2% (or about $300 billion annually) and increase food, medicine and housing substantially while disproportionately harming America’s poor.
China, India, Brazil, South Korea and Mexico are signatories to Kyoto, emit 30% of the word’s greenhouse gasses and are rapidly growing. Kyoto gives them a pass.
Global climate is affected by thousands of dynamic variables. Single measures are inadequate. For example, global NASA satellite troposphere (the layer just above the ground) temperatures demonstrate that the higher ground measures are from the “urban island” affect of retaining heat in developed areas. How you get your data is crucial.
Perhaps modest warming is not bad.CO2 dramatically increases the amount and diversity of life globally. That’s good. Africa may become more arid, but wide expanses of Canada and Siberia may be flush with new resources and shipping routes. It is also myth that a modest increase in average temperature spells plagues and pestilence.
When men or groups rise up as messiahs promising to save us from ourselves, look at the weapons they wield. If rhetorical winds are warmed by aphorisms like, “level the playing field” or “spread the wealth” in the name of the just; demand cooler heads. Whether clothed as pencil pushing pundits or politicians, saints or scientists, there is often lurking the personal pathos of working out their salvation by working over others.
Free societies support technological advances thereby multiplying life expectancy and quality. Large nanny governments afflicted with the infectious cancer of “entitlement enfeeblement” will winnow aware our wealth, well being and will to think coolly, competitively and creatively.
Man neither controls the menu nor the ingredients of the banquet this beautiful blue and green globe serves up. Do not fund silly schemes.
